This is my Avalon L335C which is my main 6 string performance guitar. It's jumbo sized, has a Western Red Cedar Top & Claro Walnut back & sides. It was hand made in
It has a beautiful full & mellow tone with lots of sustain. Big bodied guitars suit my sound & style and generate a considerable amount of volume. It's a tribute to Avalon that every time I take this guitar out people admire both it's tone & looks. This is a very beautiful guitar, the Cedar top being a deep chocolate brown & the figuring on the Walnut back & sides adding to it's visual appeal.
The tone & sustain produced by this guitar make it perfect for both vocal-accompaniment & atmospheric instrumental pieces. I LOVE IT!
The picture on the right is my Avalon A10J custom nylon. It's auditorium sized, Cedar topped with Vietnamese Mahogany back and sides. Once again, hand made in Northern Ireland at the Newtownards Avalon factory. It's Cedar top gives it a lovely mellow tone with the highs being sharp and defined. The Mahogany back and sides give an even voice across the full register marrying up excellently with the Cedar.
This is a lovely guitar to sing along with having a slightly simpler tone than the my L335C with less overtones. It is a very sweet sounding guitar and once again beautifully hand finished.
Last but not least my Taylor LKSM 12 string. The Taylor has proved to be a revelation to me. So far, this guitar has been the best sounding and best finger-picking 12 string guitar that I've played. As I am a huge Leo Kottke fan it would seem only fitting to be playing his signature guitar and it gives me everything I need to play the style of 12 string music I like.
The Spruce top and Tropical Mahagony back and sides compliment each other perfectly to produce the wonderful big bright sound that I love but it still has those rich clean deep bass tones. This guitar has a unique voice which makes it a joy to play and people seem to love it.
